Biodiversity conservation isn’t just about protecting species; it’s about changing the way we, as humans, interact with the natural world. Every major threat to wildlife, from climate change and pollution to habitat destruction, is driven by human behavior. That’s why influencing behavior is essential if we are to address the ongoing extinction crisis.
Our recent study dives into how behavior change can support conservation efforts. We reviewed existing research across three key areas: tackling diverse environmental threats, engaging different stakeholders (like voters, investors, and consumers), and using various delivery methods (from social media campaigns to hands-on community initiatives).

But there’s still work to be done. We found that many existing interventions lack scale and robust evaluation, and there’s a need to better prioritize which behaviors to target. Plus, we need to ensure that our approaches are fair, inclusive, and replicable across different settings. By addressing these gaps, we can develop more effective strategies to influence human actions—and ultimately, make a bigger impact on biodiversity conservation.Read the full paper to learn more about how we can harness the power of behavior change to protect our planet’s future.
