Fresh off the press is the latest paper on conservation marketing: Competitive outreach in the 21st century: Why we need conservation marketing. This is an output from the last International Marine Conservation Congress (IMCC), which took place in Glasgow, Scotland. This was also where the Conservation Marketing Working Group of the Society for Conservation Biology started to take shape.
The paper (open access!) discusses the history of marketing use in conservation, some marketing basics, case studies where it has been applied and ends with some reflections on the place of marketing in biodiversity conservation. This work is a collaborative effort that brought together not only academics in the natural and social sciences but also practitioners from the NGO and business sectors. This publication is part of a special issue of Ocean and Coastal Management that includes a lot of other outputs from the IMCC.
